Special Needs Patients

The needs of every dental patient differ, but there are children who have special needs. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) defines the special needs patient as one “who has physical, developmental, mental, sensory, behavioral, cognitive or emotional impairment, who may require specialized services or programs”. Healthcare for this group of patients may be beyond what is considered routine and requires specialized knowledge and accommodation. Dr. Cox has been treating special needs children for many years and has had the opportunity to work with parents and physicians to see that these children receive the care that they need.
